How To Get The Most Out of Workshops and Events

Going to a great workshop, conference, or learning event?

Here’s 8 of my favorite ways to get the most out of the conference/event/workshops you’ve invested your valuable time, money and energy into.

1.) Take a notebook…take actual notes and make some stick figure illustrations to help you with positioning,  movement, direction, things that make sense to you, etc.

2.) Take video of the summaries, if you can. Make sure you do NOT post these anywhere, as that’s the instructor’s livelihood.

3.) If you can, get video of Yourself doing/demonstrating the moves, or even explaining it, that’s really helpful! Part of the reason is that your brain will be spinning with all the new info you will learn in those many learning moments.

Plus, the videos will help you remember that you actually DID get these moves (at least once in the workshops!), and are possible again, with patience, and lots of practice.

4.) Review your favorite parts you want to remember right away…it’ll help you retain the information.

5.) If you can, teach your new information to someone else,  that will also help solidify the info even deeper so it stays in your mental toolbox. Make sure you credit your source, and just share some key key points, or cool moves, not the whole workshop, so people are interested in studying with that instructor when they can.

6.) Another note that I’ve kept true to for many, many years…Pick “one golden nugget,” just for you, from each thing you go to. That will serve you well over time, and help you feel better when you can’t remember it all (but paid to be there and participated!).

7.) Meet others, and get their contact info!* You may end up having them as a friend for years to come, as a colleague to share notes and review with, and to expand your community connection. So many wins!

8.) BONUS TIP: Always have fun. You’ll be happy to remember something you really enjoyed.

If you put these 8 tips into play, you will retain new information Sooooo much better, gain fabulous friends, and really get the most value that you can possibly can from all of your experiences!

Hoop Love Ya’ll Show

Health, Humor and Hooping with Che’ Rippinger of Hip The Hoopla

In This “Help” Show Episode/Topics:

Help–You CAN do it all yourself, or you can take a big time/effort/expense shortcut and seek help~Expert, Network & Intuitive. Plus some helpful hooping recovery techniques that can help with learning many more moves. And a little Laughter Yoga to help reduce stress and increase your happiness.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

3 Kinds of Help:

1. Expert – Someone who has spent years of studuing or has a lot more experience that you do can b-line your learning time by a lot. TIP: make sure they are reputable~just because someone is a “professional,” does not mean that they are good at what they do (it just means they take in money for it).
Example: I do a complimentary Hoop Consultation, which can save you a great deal of time and money, since I’ve already spent a lot of both of those learning what I could give you the “Cliff Notes” for!
2. Network ~ Your family, friends and colleagues can be an excellent resource for things you may need help in, anything from getting a new product to more major life dilemmas.
Example: When my mom had cancer and finally did ask for help, her family, friends and employees all stepped up in amazing ways with all kinds of recommendations, time and effort to make her journey a little easier and a lot less lonely and scary.
3. Intuitive ~ Tap into the internal messages that the combo of your brain and heart are telling you…AKA your “Gut Reaction.” If you don’t know, pick one and see how it sits with you. You’ll find if you really tune in, you will know. Also pay attention to signs and symbols–these may be your angels networking to get you some intuitive “hits.”
Example: Angel “hits” when deciding what to do…tap in and listen, because they are conspiring for you, if you let them.

♦♦♦3 Very Helpful Recovery Hooping Tips and Techniques:

Additional Inspiration/Quotations:

♦ “I get by with a little help from my friends” ~ John Lennon
♦ “Never let your ego get in the way of asking for help when in desperate need. We have all been helped at a point in our lives.” ~ Edmond Mbiaka
♦ My T-shirt motivation for the day: Sparkly heart (tap into your heart) with wings (listen to your angels!)
♦ “Do you want to learn this the easy way, or the long way?! Your choice.”~Che’ Rippinger, Chief Hooping Officer at Hip The Hoopla

Improve Your Skills–Take a Workshop!

Want to fuel your creativity or jump your skills to a new level?

There are many training options…

1. Take a workshop!

Many instructors travel around. Find them, connect with them and see what their schedule is. If you’re not on it, reach out and offer to help host them in your town. You get so much out of in-person instruction and connect with your fellow friends and peer community.
Recent Example: Vivian Spiral’s “Dancing on The Edge: Wheels, Rolls, Traces and Spirals” held at the Boulder Circus Center in Boulder, Colorado. Che Rippinger of Hip The Hoopla attends Vivian Spiral Workshop

2. Go to a conference/retreat/camp.

This may be as simple as a one day excursion or a week or more of intense learning. Travel may be involved, unless you’re lucky to have it in your neck of the woods. You may have an excuse to plan a vacation getaway halfway across the globe to expand your horizons. Or even in your own backyard.
Example: The Spin Summit, Colorado Springs, Colorado, May 2-5, 2013. Click here to register! Hip The Hoopla recommends The Spin Summit annual flow conference in Colorado

Hip The Hoopla book classes, coaching and tutorials with Che Rippinger Che@HipTheHoopla.com 303-980-6295

3. Learn Virtually.

From YouTube videos to dvds to personal coaching via Skype, there are many ways to connect with some phenomenal teachers all over the world. Prices range, but spending a little more on personal tutoring can make all the difference in catapulting your know-how.
Examples: www.YouTube/TheSpinSummit and

Whatever your path to learning, the key is to take any steps to get there. You can find what works best for you by trying something and seeing if you like it. Hoop On!!
