When You Drop The Hoop…
♥I LOVE teaching hula hoop dance…because it’s a metaphor for LIFE.
♥Easy example: When you drop the hoop, pick it up like you meant to do that.
Why this works…
♥We all drop things and we need to give ourselves grace and motivation to pick it up and try again.
♥Positive self talk to move forward…because we ALL have those moments where it’s tough to move on and the little gremlin voices start a chat fest in the back of our brains.
♥You don’t Need permission…but I’m your positive cheerleading “Che” voice that says, “You CAN do it. Keep Going. You GOT this!”

Hoop Love Ya’ll Show~Help
Hoop Love Ya’ll Show
Health, Humor and Hooping with Che’ Rippinger of Hip The Hoopla
In This “Help” Show Episode/Topics:
Help–You CAN do it all yourself, or you can take a big time/effort/expense shortcut and seek help~Expert, Network & Intuitive. Plus some helpful hooping recovery techniques that can help with learning many more moves. And a little Laughter Yoga to help reduce stress and increase your happiness.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
3 Kinds of Help:
♦ 1. Expert – Someone who has spent years of studuing or has a lot more experience that you do can b-line your learning time by a lot. TIP: make sure they are reputable~just because someone is a “professional,” does not mean that they are good at what they do (it just means they take in money for it).
Example: I do a complimentary Hoop Consultation, which can save you a great deal of time and money, since I’ve already spent a lot of both of those learning what I could give you the “Cliff Notes” for!
♦ 2. Network ~ Your family, friends and colleagues can be an excellent resource for things you may need help in, anything from getting a new product to more major life dilemmas.
Example: When my mom had cancer and finally did ask for help, her family, friends and employees all stepped up in amazing ways with all kinds of recommendations, time and effort to make her journey a little easier and a lot less lonely and scary.
♦ 3. Intuitive ~ Tap into the internal messages that the combo of your brain and heart are telling you…AKA your “Gut Reaction.” If you don’t know, pick one and see how it sits with you. You’ll find if you really tune in, you will know. Also pay attention to signs and symbols–these may be your angels networking to get you some intuitive “hits.”
Example: Angel “hits” when deciding what to do…tap in and listen, because they are conspiring for you, if you let them.
♦♦♦3 Very Helpful Recovery Hooping Tips and Techniques:
Besides learning and practice, these three recovery techniques will be the successful foundation for most all further hoop dance growth and experience, especially for on-body hooping. (All demonstrated and taught on the video)
♦ 1. Speed Up
♦ 2. Duck In
♦ 3. Turn WITH the hoop rotation
Additional Inspiration/Quotations:
♦ “I get by with a little help from my friends” ~ John Lennon
♦ “Never let your ego get in the way of asking for help when in desperate need. We have all been helped at a point in our lives.” ~ Edmond Mbiaka
♦ My T-shirt motivation for the day: Sparkly heart (tap into your heart) with wings (listen to your angels!)
♦ “Do you want to learn this the easy way, or the long way?! Your choice.”~Che’ Rippinger, Chief Hooping Officer at Hip The Hoopla

Local: “Expansion from Limitation” Hoop Workshop Tuesday, 3/113/18 6:30pm at Namaste Studio, 701 Garrison Street, Lakewood, Colorado 80215, USA (and online class offerings, too!).
…Plus some sweet kitty Capri and puppy cameos to get you smiling/laughing!
•Yum To Try/Helpful and Healthful recommendations*:
1. Zevia Zero Calorie Soda-
A light tasting very yummy NO-sugar, no-caffeine, comes in many flavors, NATURAL alternative. A nice sweet treat instead of the mainstream immune system hindering sodas and pops containing high sugar/corn syrup/toxic aspartame/chemical sweetener .
2. Organic Lemon Juice (bottled) and organic lemons
You can grate the lemon zest for a lovely lemon aroma and flavor to many dishes from veggies, main course, to desserts and sugar free, high alkaline drink (water is still #1 in healthy)!
3. Coconut Amino Acids
Super yum and a great sweet & salty alternative to soy sauce and soy amino acids–tastes like Teriyaki sauce!
*Of Course: check with your doctor before trying any of these for yourself. Everyone and body is different, and reacts differently depending on when you take things, in what quatities and in combination with other things–so do be careful and do your own research. These are helpful for *me* and are things I’ve learned through having a health food store with my mom, and learning a lot along the way from other sources as well.
YUM TO TRY Recipes!
♥ Sautéd Veggies with Coconut Amino Acids:
• Pour 1-2 Tablespoons of Avocado or Olive oil in a stove top pan over medium heat.
•Add your favorite cut up veggies of your choice to pan (like sliced up brussels sprout, onion, in order of density and cooking time needed–add minced, crushed or fine sliced garlic last and greens that can wilt in like kale which is pretty hearty, then spinach which is more tender).
• Add tumeric with ground pepper to taste for great health benefits and maximum benefit/absorption.
• For extra flavor sprinkle some fresh (bottled works well, too–go for the organic) lemon zest and/or lemon juice.
♥ “Gourmet” Popcorn :
• 2 Tablespoons Organic Coconut oil in a lid handy large pan/pot.
• Add 1/4-1/2 cup of popcorn and Cover with a lid and cook over high heat until popping diminishes (and before it starts to smoke/burn!)
(I’m going to try popping Sorghum kernels as a corn alternative–but you have to constantly keep that moving so it doesn’t burn!)
• Add some great spices afterwards! Try a Mexican blend with chili powder (start with a little, you can always add more!), paprika (especially smoked!) and onion salt, or cinnamon and stevia, or a kettle sweet and salty taste treat spraying a fine mist of coconut amino acids over and shuffling the mix until lightly coated (but not soaked!)

Hooping Tips and Tricks-
Isolations-one and two handed, plus variations
Plus Pet Cameos including a dog jumping Hoop Trick!
Yum To Try:
Here’s the Drinking Vinegar Recipe that tried, actually liked, and recommended in the video. I adapted for what I have on hand. Feel free to adjust this for yourself depending on what ingredients you have available in your fridge.
Pretty Yummy Apple Cider Vinegar Detox Drink
1 Tbsp Raw Organic Apple Cider Vinegar
1 small packet of Stevia (or liquid stevia)
1 tsp-1 Tbsp lemon juice (to taste)
1/4 – 1/2 cup other juice (veggie juice with some fruit is nice)
1 cup or so of high alkaline good water
Put all in a bottle, shake and enjoy! Hint: don’t brush your teeth right before drinking this. Also, because of the juice, try rinsing your mouth with warm water after drinking as to protect your tooth enamel more (I had to watch doing lemon in water because it made my teeth ultra sensitive). If you would like to use this as a digestive aid, it’s recommended to drink 20 minutes before you eat, so try it before your breakfast for a wake-up pick-up beverage. You can make it in advance to make it easier to grab-and-go.

Happy Healthy Leg Hooping Tips, Tricks and Q & A
Happy Healthy Leg Hooping Tips, Tricks and Q & A
With Ché Rippinger of Hip The Hoopla
This Week’s Hoopspirational Hoop Booty Camp check in includes great hoop tricks and tips, floorwork, leg hooping vs. knee hooping (for Ashley Larson), breaks & paddles, question on hoop size, hooping safety tips, healthy cooking tips (including my yum corn & quinoa chowda this weekend (Yum Cooking performance art recipe below), greek yogurt, silent laughter and even an extra doggie hoop trick! Sorry the tech pixilates the video a bit, but this content rocks–and there’s lots of humor! Remember, “leg hooping” took me a YEAR to learn, so be patient with yourself, with floor, leg or dirty pizza toss leg hooping, starts and recovery moves. Hoop Love, Ya’ll! ~Che’ … your happy hooping humorist ♥
Corn & Quinoa Chowda Recipe by Che’ Rippinger
(Disclaimer…my cooking is “Performance Art,” meaning it’s on the fly, with what I have in my fridge/pantry/stock. Go ahead and experiment (as you might with leg hooping) with some changes…no guarantees on how it will turn out, but mine was not only raved about by one of my husbands friends, but also I ate this for the next several meals including breakfast –an entire snowy Sunday with multiple trips back to the crock. I ate 2/3 of a big crock–myself in 1 1/2 days–it was that delish! This is sure to fuel your leg hooping and floorwork practice with love and joy.
Throw in a crock pot on high…
2 packages of frozen corn kernels (splurge for the yummy organic if you can)
1 cup ground corn meal (I used Bob’s Red Mill)
1 cup or so of quinoa (I used a tri-color, which was lovely)
1 chopped up onion (cut up thicker if you like chunky soup)
1 small container of marscapone cheese (you can sub in cream cheese)
At least 3 cups of a Liquid of your choice (can combine): water, stock (veggie works great), unsweetened plain almond milk (or other alternative “milks” like cashew, soy, rice etc, or dairy milk if you like)
Spices to taste (start with a pinch, you can always add more!), including/suggested:
White pepper
Tumeric
Chili Power (just a pinch–it will get spicier the more you heat it!)
Paprika
Onion powder
Garlic powder
Save the salt for the end of cooking or as a garnish–and you’ll be able to taste it better and use much actual salt which equals less sodium (more bang for your salt buck!)
Thoroughly heat on high if you want to eat it faster, or let it simmer all day on low if you want to come home to a “welcome to dinner” fabulous smelling kitchen. You can use an immersion blender for a little bit, or blend about 1/4-1/3 of the soup in a blender (be very careful blending hot liquid–it can explode out the top of your blender and can burn you)
*Serving suggestions* Make it pretty and even more tasty:
Put in a beautiful bowl, drizzle with a good olive oil, and sprinkle with black lava salt, and a bit of yummy nutritional yeast flakes, sun-dried tomatoes, and garnish with a dollop of Greek yogurt and a pinch of paprika or chili powder on top.
Biscuits are a great carb-overloading side to this, or go green with some steamed broccoli, or nice salad. I made this soup to share, and I ended up eating most of it myself! In~Joy! ~Che’

Real Changes in 4 Steps
You may perhaps be either pro or anti New Year Resolutions. This year, I’m taking a gentler approach: I’m incorporating 4 lovely steps I’m renaming “tenants” or “Shifts.” Plus I’m throwing in 2 more bonus steps, also. My basic plan that is changing my perspective this year: “Shifting with My Why.”
Some of us have made the same or similar resolution list over and over. Maybe with some success, and maybe nothing happened. What if instead of a “Do or Don’t” mentality, we simply “Shifted?” We’d move more smoothly into gear and our transition could be more gradual.
In my Hip The Hoopla classes, coaching, and mentoring, I sometimes refer to it as, “Baby Steps.” Kathy Freston, author of Quantum Wellness, brilliantly calls it “Leaning In.” You can call it “toe-dipping,” or whatever the heck you like. Right now, I personally resonate with “Shifting.”
Why is my list this year, both very, and subtly different? I’ve chosen less weighty goals for some of my plan. But the real key is that for the things that I still want to work on accomplishing…I need a better strategy. So I’m building off of my success strategies of the past, and adding a new one.
Over the years, I’ve decided to drink more water, get toxic chemicals out of my house, eat more simple homemade basic healthy foods, go vegetarian, meditate, do yoga, read more, and the list goes on. The “on” part refers to works yet to have more significant progress. (Ooops, I know, that’s guilt creeping in, lol.)
Which brings me to Tennent #1 for this year:
Be Gentler on Myself
I am great at “guilting myself out,” more for what I haven’t yet accomplished, or thought I didn’t achieve “well enough.” Time to move past that. Funny how a little life seasoning will bring about this wisdom.
That brings me to Tennant #2:
Celebrate My Wins
I am literally doing a silly happy dance. A rocking business friend of mine, Rita Goodroe calls hers, “The One Minute Dance Party.” Even if I don’t physically get up to dance, laugh, or hoop, I want to at least acknowledge myself for both my big and little wins.
I used to think cleaning my office was the big accomplishment. Now I know that clearing a simple well-used drawer, to reflect easy of use and the tools I genuinely need, is just as valid to my happiness and productivity. A little work done, that is in alignment and moving me towards my goals, is Movement. And success, begets more success. I didn’t make that principle up, but like sure does attract like.
Tennant #3:
Progress, Not Perfection.
This one is a doozy! I think it is human nature to stall completion until a project is deemed “Just Right.” The problem here though, is that many of us stay in that perpetual tweaking stage of un-done, rather than move over to the threshold of “good enough” and a completion. Making excuses of why something is not done, eventually wears so thin that “This is still not done,” is the overall message. Sometimes this step of making “progress” gets messy and frustrating because there may be one step forward and 2 or more steps back, on the way to that hopeful eventual achievement.
In japanese, they have a word “Kaizen,” which means “Never-ending improvement.” This is helpful for me so I don’t nestle into a “comfortable rut” and stay in that zone for my time on this planet.
My new Tennent #4 that I’m adding more into my Shifts List this year:
Understanding and having a really significant WHY.
Sure I want to declutter and clear out things that no longer suit me or my current lifestyle. But my WHY is really powerful: to create a space to do the things I really WANT to do. When I have space to do what I want, I can literally breathe easier. I have more joy making progress on my goals. I can live with a space that’s clogged energetically, or I can open it up to it’s magnificent new purpose. My life is enhanced, and those around me benefit greatly too–more enjoyment, peace, prosperity, joy and overall harmony.
It’s pretty cool looking at a new year with hope, backed by action.
Oh, and my Bonus Step/Tennant A, (that I have actually been doing for several years now):
Utilize the Soft or Running Start
For me, this is taking a running start at the new year–before it starts! In this space, I am messing with my goals and trying them out when no one is looking–in December. I don’t make any grand announcements at all. I just make a mental list of some testers and start trying them out. This is like January for the rest of the world. What happens during January and a new list for a lot of people, is some inevitible tripping points. Many throw in the towel here and quit, instead of reupping and moving along anyway. (See Tennent # 3 of Progress Not Perfection.)
Also another bonus step/Tennant B that I need to remember, too:
Keep Your Sense of Humor
You see, I wanted to make a simple list, and it got long, pretty quickly. So I am laughing at myself already. But I still like a challenge and there seem to be 12 months to accomplish a little change for the better, in each one. Wish me luck! I’ll need a little of that, and a little kicking myself in the katookus. Plus the help of some accountability buddies, will do wonders for my personal and professional progress. Blessings to you in your own journey. May it be not only successful, but also, a lot of fun!
I’d love to hear from you. What are your goals, personal ways to accomplish them, and what are your stumbling blocks and eventual successes? Any short cuts or tips you can share to help me and others? Please let me know on my www.Facebook.com/HipTheHoopla page, call, text, snail or e-mail.

Hula Hoop Hand Grips for Interesting Hoop Dance Variations
Here’s a short tutorial video on several hoop hand grip positions with Hip The Hoopla’s Che’ Rippinger. Note: I use the names of these grips as Emma Kenna teaches–because I love the accuracy in her fun descriptions, and she is a total enjoyable hoot–plus I love to credit the original source!

Hand Grip Variations Video Tutorial Link
FOR THESE HAND GRIP TECHNIQUES:
There aren’t any prerequisite moves that you need to have accomplished first for these hand grips. Just know that they do flow together with each half turn, and can be used interchangeably in your hoop dance flow session. It’s good to know these on both hands, and going in both directions on each hand–so your possibilities for combining them and creating variations on new moves and dance combinations, is endless!
HOOP DANCE TIPS:
Please warm up and cool down (head to toe!) to keep your body safe and hooping longer, hydrate, and take it sloooow! Make sure you have a nice dance posture: stand tall, shoulders back, chest and head lifted, abdominal wall in, pelvis tucked under, and a slight bend in the knees. Dancer/Boxer feet–keep your weight shifted forward on the balls of your feet, rather than resting back on your heels–easier for nimble movement. Try everything *without* the hoop first. Next, just hold the hoop and do the moves. Then get your fancier hoop moves in while coordinating with some basic stepping or fancy footwork dance combinations. Bring all you have to the table–your personal style, experience and sass! Stay positive and give yourself lots of credit for any and all progress! Keep a hoop notebook and take a couple of moments to write down tips and tricks that are helpful for you. Then review them right then and there, and a few minutes the next day…etc. You’ll be amazed at your progress! Please post how you are doing. Grab a buddy and stay accountable to another. Quick Video Hula Hoop Tutorial Trick: Inverted Scorpion Pass
Quick Tutorial-Inverted Scorpion Pass Hula Hoop Trick with Che of Hip The Hoopla
Want to know how to make a Scorpion Pass (an already ooh-ahh hula hoop trick) look even more awesome? Try adding a flexibility maneuver to it! If you practice yoga or have trained in dance, you may already know how to get an inverted standing split stretch. If you are not familiar with the safety and technique of those, please do that first! Or take out that extra element, and just practice the scorpion pass.
Having the Scorpion foot pass already accessible in your hooping tricks tool box, is very helpful.
Remember some key points in the Scorpion pass:
1. Keep your hoop hooked on a flexed foot as you drop it on to your foot from a hand pass, circle the extended leg (with flexed foot) around to the back.
2. Be ready to grab the flying hoop as you point the toe with the hoop on it.
3. With that hoop release, the hoop should transfer your hoop from foot to opposite hand.
4. Practice will help your coordination and timing of this move to pass and catch the hoop.
Hope you enjoy this and practice. If you are interested in private or group lessons, custom hula hoops, humor & health info, please connect with us at www.HipTheHoopla.com
Many Blessings to You ♥ Hoop Love, Ya’ll!
