HIP & BOOTIE HOOPING TIPS:

Keep your knees slightly bent so you have more room for the hips to move, rotate, shimmy, etc. Keep smiling–you are working your tushie–so have some fun with it and cut loose with your hips. There are lots of ways to do these moves, whether you have belly dance experience or not. The variations on these are endless–especially when you combine your body movements with hoop tricks. Remember this is about bringing DANCE (with fun and your unique personality) into your hooping–not just tricks. A hip scarf is fun for practice with coins or fringe–hearing jingling or seeing that flowy movement. Sometimes it can hinder your on-body hooping a bit though unless you have some inner hoop grip tape lining or turn in the direction your hoop is spinning to give yourself more time to move with a slower hoop rotation.

Some Fun Bootie Synonyms:

Rump, badunkadunk, bum, rear, heinie, butt, rear end, (the A part of T & A), keister, junk in the trunk, tail end, and caboose. And I call it a “bootie shelf,” lol so shake it if you’ve got it!

HOOP DANCE TIPS:

Please warm up and cool down (head to toe!) to keep your body safe and hooping longer, hydrate, and take it sloooow! Make sure you have a nice dance posture: stand tall, shoulders back, chest and head lifted, abdominal wall in, pelvis tucked under and a slight bend in the knees. Dancer/Boxer feet–keep your weight shifted forward on the balls of your feet rather than resting back on your heels–easier for nimble movement. Try everything *without* the hoop first. Next, just hold the hoop and do the moves. Then get your fancier hoop moves in while coordinating with some basic stepping or fancy footwork dance combinations. Bring all you have to the table–your personal style, experience and sass! Stay positive and give yourself lots of credit for any and all progress! Keep a hoop notebook and take a couple of moments to write down tips and tricks that are helpful for you. Then review them right then and there, and a few minutes the next day…etc. You’ll be amazed at your progress! Please post how you are doing. Grab a buddy and stay accountable to another.
